Dream LondonI have a new review up at Strange Horizons, of Tony Ballantyne’s novel . The premise of the book is that a sustained rise in greed and individualism has caused the fabric of reality around London to warp into fantastical shapes. As a novel of imaginative vistas, Dream London works quite well; but the central metaphor is less successful:

…there’s little, in a dramatic sense, to compare the reality of Dream London to—and this dilutes the impact of the societal change that Ballantyne describes. The sense of loss that the novel attempts to convey is not earned on the page.
